Therapy
Therapy with Dr. Brush
Therapy is how I help most people. During our 45-60 minute sessions, we talk about what has been bothering you and explore ways to help you handle those situations better. Therapy is not about me giving you advice, but about me teaching you the tools you need in daily life. Most of my clients have PTSD, depression, or anxiety, although I work with adults with most types of disorders. I have learned several types of therapy styles/techniques in order to have a number of different ways of working with clients.
Therapy Styles
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which involves noticing our negative, dysfunctional thoughts and trying to reframe them to be more helpful.
Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing which is a body-based therapy that helps us to notice and handle internal reactions. I believe fully in the brain-body connection and most of us pay too little attention to our bodies. This form of therapy provides techniques to help us become more comfortable with overwhelming emotions and physical sensations.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of therapy based on the fact that bilateral stimulation (such as moving your eyes back and forth) while processing negative material helps us to create more positive beliefs thereby allowing us to store the reprocessed material in a way that removes the negative emotions.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is a way of interacting with the world that causes us to be more present in the current moment. Being more mindful allows us to monitor our behavior and current reactions, to slow our reactions down, and to choose new behaviors to handle ongoing problems.
